Schalke: difficult beginning after Bundesliga return

Miron Muslić’s team endured a frustrating return to the Bundesliga, suffering a 3-0 defeat against Augsburg in their opening fixture. Schalke remained within touching distance at 1-0 after an hour, but Ron Schallenberg’s red card left them with 10 men and made a comeback even more difficult.

Despite the disappointing scoreline, Schalke showed some attacking promise by generating chances worth 2.10 expected goals. Their recent history against Bayern, however, makes for grim reading, as the Royal Blues have suffered defeat in each of their last 12 encounters with the Munich giants.

Bayern Munich: champions make an emphatic start

Vincent Kompany’s reigning champions began their Bundesliga title defence in impressive fashion, cruising to a 5-1 victory over Stuttgart. Dayot Upamecano, Michael Olise, Aleksandar Pavlović and Luis Díaz all found the net, while Stuttgart also contributed an own goal.

Bayern maintained their strong momentum in the German Cup, comfortably overcoming Osnabrück 4-1. The Bavarians have now won three successive competitive matches and remain unbeaten away from home in domestic competitions during 2026.
