Real Betis vs Real Madrid: Match Preview

Real Betis enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, finishing strongly enough to secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League. They collected 60 points across 38 league matches, ending six points clear of the team in sixth place. Their European campaign is also approaching, with an away trip to Lille scheduled for September 8.

Betis have made a respectable start to the new La Liga season. They opened with consecutive 1-0 victories over Real Sociedad and Valencia before suffering a heavy 5-2 defeat against Levante in their latest outing. Despite that setback, six points from the opening three rounds still represents a solid platform.

Real Madrid have started the campaign in even more convincing fashion. Los Blancos beat Espanyol 2-1 before recording emphatic victories over Real Sociedad and Málaga, winning 4-1 and 4-0 respectively. With three wins from three and nine points on the board, Madrid sit second in the table, behind Barcelona only on goal difference.

The Spanish giants are determined to return to winning silverware after two trophyless seasons. Last year, they finished second in La Liga, exited the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, and suffered an early Copa del Rey elimination. The return of José Mourinho has therefore brought fresh expectations, with the Portuguese coach aiming to restore the club to the top.
